THE MISSION

THE MISSION AND VALUES OF FRIENDS OF SEA SCOUTS

A little bit about why we do it:

FOR THE KIDS & THE SPORT

The Sea Scouts® are a sailing-centered segment of the Boy Scouts of America®. Scouting teaches teamwork, leadership, personal responsibility, resourcefulness, conservation, civic responsibility and so much more. Sea Scouts® take this training to the next level. It’s easy to support such a cause, and they need it.

The Scouts not only volunteer for civic projects, but host sailing days for groups including the School for the Blind, cancer patients, countless local groups of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.

Ship 851 has been an exemplary unit, graduating many Quartermasters, the highest rank in Sea Scouts®. Youth from HIYC and abroad have studied the science of sailing, the art of racing tactics and strategy, water safety and navigation under this great leadership.

Development doesn’t stop on Old Hickory Lake. The Scouts travel to regattas and charter boats from the Great Lakes to Florida and up and down the eastern coast. The Scouts and volunteer leaders work hard to raise funds for families that don’t have the funds to send their children. That’s where we can help.
